E) Silica
Delmon Sands holds a number of Mining Leases and Mineral Development Leases at Hofuf in an area approximately 80 kilometers from Dammam.
Delmon Co. Ltd. commenced mining in late 1982 to feed a pilot plant, which produced approximately 30,000 tones per annum of washed and dried sand, principally used in foundry and epoxy industries, architectural coatings, pool, and decorative finishes.
In late 2001, the Directors approved the construction of a new plant, with a capacity of over 60,000 tones per annum. It is expected to be completed and in full production by December 2001.
The pilot plant has demonstrated that the silica from this resource is ideally suited to meet the demand from a variety of specialist markets.
